Imagine feeding 4,000 hungry kids breakfast and lunch.
Now imagine doing it every day.
That's what the 40 people do in the Kerrville ISD
Child Nutrition Department.
A typical meal might call for 2600 hamburger buns, or
162 pounds of cheese. In one month kids will down more
than 52,000 cartons of milk.
We buy only Grade A fruits and vegetables, and use standardized
recipes to yield consistent quality. We consistently earn
the highest sanitation scores in town, and all staff are
trained in proper and safe food handling.
We follow nutritional guidelines imposed by the U.S. Department
of Agriculture, financial guidelines from the Texas Education
Agency, plus sanitary regulations from the health department.
The Nutrition Department earns all the money in its budget.
This is done from student and adult charges, along with
federal reimbursement for free and reduced price meals.
And always, our primary focus is on pleasing our most
demanding customers - the students who use our food as
fuel for growing, learning, and imagining the future. |
